Enrichment Programs

In the Montessori environment, children are exposed to a variety of experiences that enrich their academic experience and develop the whole person. The elementary and middle school program is enhanced by the presence of four specialists. They bring the visual and performing arts as well as the study of foreign language and physical education to the classroom.

Art

Besides offering a vehicle for creative expression, the art program provides enrichment to an already stimulating curriculum. By examining the works of may fine artists as well as the arts of many cultures, the child can become witness to the unique way that people have recorded their vision of the world and wonders of nature.

Music

Jack
Quigley
The music program is an exciting and fun curriculum based on the Orff-Schulwerk process of teaching and learning. Orff-Schulwerk is a general, group-oriented musicality where the individual can explore, create, compose and enjoy all elements of music. Through singing, movement, speaking, body sound rhythms, playing simple melody instruments and percussion instruments with music scores and improvisation, children learn the love and joys of music. Music programs will be provided for all the children at the VMS. In addition to the regularly scheduled classes, group choral and various solo instrumental classes will be offered throughout the year.

Spanish

Laura
Arizaga

The Spanish program is an important part of our academic picture. In the Lower Elementary program, the goal is for the children to have fun with the language and develop a genuine love for it. They learn basic vocabulary, some conversation and develop their awareness of Hispanic culture. As the children progress through the grades, the complexity and intensity of the instruction increases. In Upper Elementary, the students have Spanish two days a week and develop greater skills in conversation, vocabulary and grammar. This continues in Middle School, where the students attend Spanish classes four days per week.
